Heat Considering Signing Overweight Has Been?

Reports leaked over the weekend that the Miami Heat had worked out, and were considering signing, PTU Dog House inductee and all around useless former Knick, Eddy Curry. Although the Daily News' source was quoted as saying the possibility of signing Fat Ed was "50/50", Pat Riley almost immediately squashed the reports as speculative at best, and insisted that Curry was just one of 10 or so players the Heat worked out.

Even taking Riley at his word (as unnatural as that is) and it's true that Eddy only went through a preliminary work-out, the fact that Miami even entertained the idea of letting him in the locker room highlights the glaring issue that the Heat have (as well as the main reason next to lack of a quick point guard that they would be the best matchup for the Knicks in the first round): the lack of a serviceable big man in the middle. The unimpressive collection of scrubs and washed-up big guys that are taking up space for the Heat this season has been a consistent problem on South Beach. Old men who were washed up at least 4 years ago (Juwan Howard, Jamaal Magloire, Erick Dampier); a 7"3' LeBron entourage member who scores almost exclusively off pick and pop 20 foot jump shots (Big Z); a hustler with one of the worst offensive games in the league (Joel Anthony) and someone named Dexter Pittman who I'm not sure actually exists. After that line-up of bums, I guess Curry wouldn't be that much of a downgrade. If they actually did sign him before playoff rosters are set, it would be interesting to see Eddy's return to the Garden for a possible first round series. At least Knicks fans would have another Heat player to boo.

  1. Another player the Knicks could have gotten value from. I still wish we has Mozgov

  2. We got my man Corey Brewer for him and then let him go without playing one minute.

Knicks - Heat could be a great series. Curry vs Jeffries would be a pretty funny match-up to watch.
