One of my favorite directors, Sidney Lumet, died yesterday. Although he was actually born in Philadelphia, Lumet made some of the most classic New York films throughout his more than 50 year career. From Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon to Before the Devil Knows Your Dead, he was able to capture a certain New York sensibility as well as just make really, really good movies.
