PTU Non-Hip But Good Hall Of Fame

Recently some of us started having a discussion about things that are not at all hip but worth checking out. To qualify, the place has to actually have some positive qualities, but it can't be a hole in the wall that has been discovered and worshiped by the broader world (e.g. Di Fara's pizza). By design, some of the choices may seem mundane, but keep an open mind.

Our inaugural post is Georgia Diner in Elmhurst Queens. This spot isn't flashy and it doesn't have artisan bread or local honey, but it makes some damn good standard diner food. I've been going there since high school and still hit it up if I happen to be in Queens for stuff like burgers and pancakes. For a diner in NYC, it is also remarkably clean without being too fancy. Don't come here looking for Pesto or Lobster Tails and you won't be disappointed. It gets mixed reviews on Yelp, but that is because the snobs on there order fancy dinners and expect Michelin 5 star food at a diner at 2am. Trust me the diner food is top notch.

Definitely worth a try if you somehow find yourself lost in Queens at 2am and are looking for a good burger or breakfast food.

Why would I want to go to a place that doesn't have grass feed free range Emu on the menu? Sounds like they don't even have NPR as the default radion station. Thanks but no thanks Snoot!

  6. When you're a little drunk, a lot hungry, and can't find anything open...good old Georgia Diner will be there to have a towny looking woman serve you a burger or pancakes with a Heineken.

  7. Elmhurst Queens?! Having lived in Manhattan my whole life, except for those first 18 years in Kansas, why would I degrade myself by going there?
