WE GOT MELO

Although Bagels beat me to it, I still wanted the satisfaction of finally posting about the Knicks obtaining Carmelo Anthony. The details:
Knicks get - Carmelo, Billups, Shelden Williams, Renaldo Blackman
Knicks give up - Gallinari, Chandler, Felton, Mozgov, 2014 first-round pick
Denver gets - the Knick's pieces + the Warrior's 2012 second-round pick and also their 2013 second-rounder.
Denver made out great in this deal, pushing the Knicks to the very end to include as much as possible. The Knicks team looks pretty good: they got to keep Fields, and now they'll dump Billups after next season and pursue Chris Paul.
NBA.com didn't include anything about Curry's contract. It seems safe to assume that fat-boy's contract was included.

  1. According to ESPN knicks also get Corey Brewe from minn whos not terrible and the fat gay guy's contract goes to Min along with Anthony Randolph

  2. All the guys they picked up - Brewer, S. Williams, Balkman, and A. Carter - all come off the books at the end of this season or next. In total it's about 12 million dollars between them. Billups has a 14.2 million option for next season. So, at the end of next season, they'll have at least 26 million coming off the books just from these players.

  3. Nuggets made out great on this.

They get Gallinari, Chandler, Felton, and Mozgov (4 talented young players), plus three draft picks (1 first-round, 2 second-round).

ESPN is saying they may also make more trades before the deadline.

  4. Knicks, on the other hand, are kinda depleted. The only big guy they have left is Turiaf. Definitely need to add a decent center sometime within the next year.

  5. Nuggets also got 3 million in cash

  6. Hold on though, Mozgov sucked for the first 3 months of the season and didn't even play for like 2 months. But now they're depleted at center? Billups for Felton is more than a fair trade, Chandler probably would have walked after the season and the rest of those guys they traded suck and don't play. Do you even have cable? The Nuggets are going to be awful.

  7. somehow the Nuggets with the same team the Knicks had in a better Western Conference are going to be awesome all of a sudden? Good thing they have the Knicks 2nd round pick. And that 3 million should be able to get Dwight Howard or Chris Paul.

  8. Generally when a teams trades away their superstar player they get little in return and have to rebuild. Not so with the Nuggets. The Knicks are obviously depleted at center - that's why they are currently looking to trade for a big man.

I never said the Nuggets were going to be awesome. I said they got way more than they should have in the Carmelo trade. That 3 million is on top of the Curry contract and the scrub players they dumped on the Knicks. In total, the Nuggets cleared 20+ million dollars, got 4 talented young starters, and received a draft pick. Then the Knicks gave away Randolph for pretty much nothing.

  9. I recently came across an nba.com article about deadline trades. Teams generally do not get much in return for a superstar, and that is why the Nuggets made out so well. Examples:

    1. Rasheed Wallace to Detroit, 2004
Transaction: The Pistons sent guard Bob Sura, forward Zeljko Rebraca and a first-round pick to Atlanta for Wallace. *They went on to win a championship with Wallace. Who the hell is Zeljko Rebraca?

    2. Pau Gasol to the Lakers, 2008
Transaction: The Lakers got Gasol and a 2010 second-round pick from Memphis for centers Kwame Brown and Marc Gasol, guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010. *They won two championships in a row. Should have held on to Kwame...

    3. Clyde Drexler to Houston, 1995
Transaction: Houston acquired Drexler and Tracy Murray from Portland in exchange for forward Otis Thorpe, Marcelo Nicola and a 1995 first-round pick that became guard Randolph Childress. *Drexler averaged 21.5 and the won the championship that year.
