Grammys get it right for once
Yeah, so award shows in general are really annoying and pointless and the Grammys is usually a 3 hour waste of time, and last night was no different in those respects. But at least the choice for Album of the year was actually a good album and one that people listened to. Hell, at least it was an album that people under 60 knew was released last year. A quick look at the list of winners of AOTY for the past 20 years include: Steely Dan, Robert Plant, Herbie Hancock, Tony Bennett, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and Carlos Santana. Those guys are good for lifetime achievement awards or inductions into the Rock n Roll hall of fame or whatever but no way they made the best albums of those years. So even if you're not a big fan of The Suburbs or Arcade Fire be thankful that the voters asked their grandchildren what the kiddies are listening to these days before casting their vote. (And the album is awesome).

I googled that chick who won for Best New Artist and her album is basically lounge music over an African beat. Good elevator music for non-profit offices.
ReplyDeleteLike Norah Jones. Dentist office music. i just noticed Eric Clapton in the ad below.
ReplyDeleteDisagree.
ReplyDeleteLady Antebellum sucks, Arcade Fire was better on the early albums before they got all snooty. Plus why is some unknown jazz artist relevant? Crap...
I just meant they got the album of the year right. I think they were always kind of snooty. I'm also glad they didn't give the award to that horrible Eminem album.
ReplyDeleteOn a relative basis yes. At least this year they were only a year or two behind instead of 30 years behind on their pick.
