Top 20 Beef Songs
20. "No Rest for the Wicked"- Cypress Hill dissing Ice Cube (1995)
Cypress Hill's Temples of Boom popped up on my ipod today and I heard the Ice Cube diss record "No Rest for the Wicked" for the first time in a while. This has all the makings of a great beef record:
- A tough, scary beat
- Shit talking before, during and after the song as well as threats of violence
- Calling the other rapper by his actual first name (it helps when it's O'Shea)
- Questioning the other rapper's manhood and integrity
- reworking the other rapper's own lyrics to make fun of them
- A real life incident that sparked the beef
In this case, B-Real supposedly let his friend Cube hear "Throw your Sets in the Air", and lo and behold O'Shea came out with basically the same song on the Friday soundtrack. Needless to say, they weren't happy about it. Anyway, these guys are friends again now, and Ice Cube makes stupid kiddy movies and unfunny TBS sitcoms, but this song still belongs in the Bagel Beef archives.
Best line: "I got Cube melting in the tray, pulling up his card and f#@%ing up his good day"

What year was that? The song still sounds really good.
