Shake Shack is overrated

So after a brutal winter and a non-existent spring, the weather is finally starting to improve. The picture above shows what you can expect with the warmer weather. Girls in more revealing clothes and ridiculously long lines at Shake Shack. I pass by this line every day and I think to myself "Don't you people have anything better to do?". Why don't people realize that their time has intrinsic value? You see this phenomenon all the time when people in business suits are lining up for an hour at a grand opening Chipotle to get a free $7 burrito.

While I agree that Shake Shack makes a good and maybe great burger, its not worth waiting in line for 2 hours for. Especially given that there are 3 locations in the city and one in Citi Field. Lines this long should be reserved for things that are scarce, not a freaking burger. The only time it would be acceptable to wait on a line this long are for the following:

1. There is an outbreak of some animal flu (pig, chicken, goat, etc.) and the government is rationing vaccines.
2. It is communist Russia circa 1983 and you need bread.
3. You are a tourist in a foreign country in queue to see an attraction you'll only have one chance to view.

  1. Couldn't agree more. I'm never standing in line for any food for longer than 10 minutes.

  2. This looks like a line for rice in Africa.
