Today in Met Failures: 3/12/12 Update

Apparently some bullpen catcher for the Mets named Eric Langill was arrested for drunk driving, adding to the misery for the Mets. According to MSNBC.COM, after a wild night of bowling with his teammates he hit a fountain and flipped his car over.

Langill, 32, was driving a white Honda Accord Sunday night in Port Saint Lucie when he apparently took a hard right at an intersection ahead of the traffic circle, causing him to drive over a curb and a sidewalk, hit a sign and eventually a concrete fountain, where the car flipped over, according to a police report.

The police report said Langill said he was heading home from a bowling alley and was cut off by another car.

The police report noted Langill had "a strong odor of alcohol," along with slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and a flushed face. He told the officer he had consumed two drinks, later saying two to three drinks.

In other news, the team made an announcement on Facebook that they've FINALLY listened to fans and installed a blue wall. Our prayers have been answered. Fan response was quite positive :

"Dodger BLUE, sell the team crooks"

"We are supposed to be happy about this? Stop acting like you are doing us a favor". 

To round out the bad news, some guy named Tim Byrdak, who was apparently the only lefty in the bullpen, is having surgery for a torn meniscus and will begin the season on the DL.

Mets 2012, we all have something to prove! YAY!

Today in Met Failures

On my way in to work this morning I was listening to the sports update and got to enjoy the beginning of what will be a horrible season for the Mets. I'm a lifelong Mets fan resigned to suffer, but I can some enjoyment out of pointing out how terrible things are going. We haven't even played the first spring training game but already:

• David Wright is NOT PLAYING today due to sore ribs. WTF!! Did he get so out of shape over the off season that taking BP damaged him that much? 
• Ike Davis, another fan favorite, has some type of rare tropical fungal infection. Who cares what the name is, more importantly how the hell do you get this right before spring training starts? At some point Ike never being healthy seems like some kind of weird joke. Maybe he has some other disease that simply hasn't been disclosed yet.
• Recently Wilpon said his family expects to control the team for a long time to come. No reason to explain why this is a huge fail.

All in all, a fitting start to a terrible season for a self-loathing Mets fan.

PTU Great Moments In Mets History

September 29th, 2011. The Mets were in another hotly contested series against the Cincinnati Reds. Jose Reyes, the face of the Mets franchise, was about to accomplish something NEVER done before by a Mets player: Win the NL Batting Title.

It was not just about winning the batting title, it was about the courageous way in which he went about it...the Mets way. Harking back to days of true men like Ted Williams, Jose Reyes demonstrated the mental and hamstring toughness all Mets fan know he possess.

Bases empty, bottom of the first inning. An almost capacity crowd with 30% of the stadium empty. A BUNT! Reyes makes it to first. And then, the toughest decision, but the right one for a Met. Reyes takes himself out to improve his odds of winning the batting title. His manager even gave him the credit, saying it was Reyes who made the bold decision to take himself out. And that, Mets fans is how we got our first NL Batting Title. Another great day in Mets history.
